As of January 1, 2025, a new regulation for photovoltaic systems and electrical installations designed for charging electric vehicles will come into effect. This standard focuses on the design, implementation, and modernization of electrical installations in all types of buildings, and also includes specific requirements for parking lots in underground and multi-story garages.

Response to technological developments

According to the Czech Photovoltaic Association, this regulation reflects the dynamic development in photovoltaics and electromobility. These sectors face issues related to unqualified installations, which can lead to serious safety risks, including fires. The main goal of the new standard is to ensure maximum safety for everyday users of these technologies.

The standard, which will replace the document valid since December 2014, introduces updated requirements for the installation of photovoltaics and electrical wiring in residential buildings, as well as in multi-story garages. It also includes specifications for charging stations for e-bikes, scooters, and other light electric vehicles not classified as electric cars.

Why is insurance for photovoltaics and charging infrastructure important?

Unprofessional installations of photovoltaic systems and charging stations can lead to serious consequences, including fires, which pose a risk to both property and personal safety. Even with the introduction of the new standard, not all risks can be eliminated, especially if equipment is exposed to unpredictable events such as storms, hail, or fluctuations in electrical voltage.

Well-structured insurance covers

not only damage to the photovoltaic panels or charging stations themselves, but also, crucially, to adjacent parts of the building, including electrical installations. Furthermore, it protects users from financial losses that could arise from a prolonged system outage or the need for extensive repairs. Insurance is gaining importance

also in light of legislative requirements and growing investments in renewable energy sources and electromobility. It protects not only property but also the functionality of these technologies, which are becoming an indispensable part of modern living and transportation.
