In 2023, the National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB) recorded the highest number of cyber incidents in its history – a total of 262. This represents an almost twofold increase compared to 2022. The main cause was repeated attacks organized by pro-Russian hacktivist groups.

NÚKIB Director Lukáš Kintr emphasized that two of last year's incidents were classified as very serious, meaning they fell into the highest severity category. One of these incidents affected a significant strategic state institution, while the other involved an unregulated entity from the defense sector.

Last year also saw rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbots based on large language models (LLMs, a trend expected to continue this year. These innovations are already being exploited, for example, to generate phishing attacks or write malicious code.

The new Cybersecurity Act, which NÚKIB submitted to the Government Legislative Council last December, is set to play a crucial role in strengthening the Czech Republic's cybersecurity.

Don't leave your cybersecurity to chance and get insured in case of an attack.

Cyber risk insurance is a type of insurance that protects businesses from lossesresulting from cyberattacks and data breaches. It covers a range of expenses associated with these incidents, such as forensic investigations, legal fees, customer notification costs, and even business interruption losses.

One of the benefits of cyber risk insurance is that it provides businesses with access to resources and expertisethat can help them prevent cyberattacks and data breaches in the first place. Cyber risk is currently insurable, and many businesses are already purchasing policies to protect against cyberattacks and data breaches.

When purchasing cyber risk insurance, it's important to understand what is and isn't covered. Insurance policies can vary significantly. For example, some policies may not cover certain types of attacks, such as social engineering attacks, or may have limits on the amount of coverage provided. Furthermore, it's important to understand the deductible and limits of an insurance policy. The deductible is the amount the insurer subtracts from the payout in the event of a claim. The limit is the maximum amount the insurer will pay out in the event of an insured event.
