A good manager is also paid to anticipate worst-case scenarios and prepare for them during times when things are going well, everything is running smoothly, and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Because it's not a matter of if something will go wrong, but when.

Are you a good manager?

Take natural disasters, for example. It doesn't necessarily have to be a tornado – usually a storm with strong winds and hail is enough...

...and when assessing the damage, you'll encounter many surprises. Unpleasant ones. And very, very expensive ones – especially if your company, organization, or office is located in a historic building or manages such buildings.

These buildings are very likely underinsured. Because insurance policies are decades old, the insured amounts no longer correspond to the current value of the structures.

The difference often amounts to more than 40 %. Who will pay the difference? You guessed it: your company, organization, or perhaps the city.

It's not just about insuring damaged property, but also about insuring the historical value of buildings, which often fall under heritage protection. The cost of renovating such a building can be so staggering that it can instantly deplete all of your organization's financial reserves.

This is exactly what happened in an unnamed city, which, among other things, consists of a historic complex of buildings. A storm with tennis-ball-sized hail caused enormous damage to the roofs of the town hall, schools, and many other buildings.

Repairing a single damaged historic stained-glass window can easily cost up to 250 000 Kč.

Repairing a single damaged historic roof, on the other hand, can cost up to CZK 10,000,000.

The problem is, you might need to repair, say, eighty

Addressing similar situations when they arise is usually too late – in the insurance industry, it's doubly true that 'prevention is always cheaper than cure'.
