Cyber risks rose over the past year

It will come as no surprise that the war in Ukraine significantly influenced the rise in cyberattacks. In our country, the spread of disinformation, malware, and phishing campaigns increased over the past year.

Cyber risks rose over the past year
Last year, phishing affected online marketplaces, for example, but not exclusively. Attacks targeted all types of devices and operating systems. A large portion of cyber scams involved fake fundraising campaigns for Ukraine. Surely some of you also received SMS messages impersonating the Czech Post.
Another common attack involved password theft, especially of those stored in web browsers, which may not be as secure as they seem. In the case of Android mobile phones, several versions of invasive codes appeared in the Czech Republic that modify the system itself, either quickly or slowly.
Companies are not exempt from these attacks. Many small businesses lack the comprehensive security measures that larger corporations have. More than 40% of Czech businesses experienced several security incidents in a year, which is certainly not a small number. A typical attack is a server overload with requests, causing an operational outage. Another is ransomware, a program designed to damage the system and data itself. A ransom is demanded for recovery. Hospitals in Brno and Benešov, for example, have experienced this type of cyberattack.
